In many homes across Durham Region, individuals and families struggle daily with 
the challenges of mental illness. The Adult Mental Health Unit is located on the 4th
floor of the C and A-Wings, the Adult Mental Health unit features both inpatient
and outpatient services, and three distinct sections to promote flow and enhanced
safety and security systems.
The New Unit includes:
- 10,763 sq. ft on C4
- 16,141 sq. ft on A4
- 30 bed inpatient unit with 4 stretcher bays
- 10-bed intensive psychiatric care unit - one of the largest in the province
- State-of-theart security system with 20 recordable video cameras throughout 4C
- All furniture specially designed and secured to the floor
Additional hightlights of the Adult Mental Health Unit are:
- Unit opened December, 2010
- Offices, conference rooms and group rooms for inpatient, psychiatrists and day treatment programs
- Code White buttons throughout the inpatient and outpatient areas
- Three patient lounges and three dining rooms
- All staff have personalized portable cell phones with added security alerts built into the system
