Gifts of Real Estate

The Oshawa Hospital Foundation uses its discretion in accepting gifts of property.   Gifts of real estate may be made in various ways: outright or residual interest in it.   If you are considering such a gift, please contact the Foundation office.  The Board of Directors of the Foundation must give approval to proceed with gifts of property.

If approval from the Board of Directors is obtained, then the donor will be asked to provide qualified appraisals of proposed gifted property from two sources. The Foundation may, at its discretion, obtain a third independent appraisal, and, in such cases, issue a receipt based on the Foundation's own appraisal. The donor must demonstrate clear title to the property. The Foundation will review all pertinent factors, including zoning restrictions, marketability, prior land use, current use and cash flow, to ascertain that acceptance of the gift would be in the best interests of the Foundation.   The Foundation will not accept a gift of property if the real estate possibly contains toxic wastes.
